A bit of a 2 part post, this being part one.

I’ve been battling with a course of action to keep perfectly good computers securely running that don’t meet Microsoft’s Windows 11 requirements. I’ve ended up with a small number of these after customers have upgraded to new or newer systems at the behest of MS from perfectly working PCs.
One option is to just stay using Windows 10 – different internet talking heads have different opinions on the safety of this, but I’m not prepared to sell machines that don’t get security updates.
The second option is always quick in the Youtube comments section – a glib “use Linux”. The big question for me is always “Yes, but which version”? Not all versions\builds are the same.
To cut a long story short, after installing it on my own home PC to fully experience it, I have plumped for Linux Mint. This will be going on all of my non Windows 11 computers going forward. Part 2 of this post will be a brief account of my experience (I’ve never been a real Linux user in the past), but in the meantime here is a great video that simply goes over Linux Mint as a Windows alternative without being too tecky about it!
